Before winning every single prize for comics imaginable, Satrapi seemed destined for none as a girl growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. After a few teenage years in Vienna and college back in Iran, she left her homeland for good, studying art in Strasbourg and eventually publishing the acclaimed memoir Persepolis (the basis for last years Oscar-nominated animated movie). Shes also the author and illustrator of Embroideries, Chicken With Plums, and childrens books. Using her life and work as the starting point, her discussion here will straddle the political and the creative. Expect her to recall her life in Tehran and Europe, using film clips and slides of her work to trace her journey as an artist.
