MakLak

Sunday, July 20

Well, MakLak has given his three-months notice: After September, the venerable one-man band (with live rhythm section support) won’t be playing any more shows. Presently, this is the only gig on his concert calendar, so local music enthusiasts who’ve been meaning to see MakLak for the past twelve years but haven’t quite gotten around to it should probably seize the opportunity. His four-track demo recordings range from scratchy sludge rock with distorted-screech vocals to shoegaze noise swirls: MakLak’s cover of Mazzy Star’s “Roseblood” fits into the latter category. This packed all-local, all-ages bill also includes the impressively full-sounding female-fronted indie act Fall City Shakedown; piano-playing singer/songwriters Jordan Lake and Mary Lydia Ryan; mellow-grunge trio Hellocharger; melodic metal outfit One Weak Throttle Fix; the name-says-it-all crew Renob Squad; and Starting at Zero, a group that’s poised to establish itself as the world’s preeminent gaming/sci-fi-obsessed crunk/funk/hardcore sextet.
