Loveless Records Showcase with the Blakes + the Shackletons + Carrie Akre

Friday, July 27

What about Love(less)! Don’t you want someone to care about you? Oh, Loveless Records, we do, even if the local-label spotlight hasn’t befallen you as much in this year of bizarrely fantastic reissues (Light in the Attic) and singer-songwriter harvesting (Sub Pop). Loveless, formed in 1999 by John Richards, Eric Richards, and Pete Nordstrom, has a lot to celebrate tonight, including new partner Sam Jones (producer, and director of a certain Wilco movie) and movin’-on-up intern Amy Bauer, in addition to forthcoming releases from The Shackletons and Carrie Akre. Both of these acts have got it going on, the former in a scrappily elegant post-punk fashion and Akre with her trademark songwriting power and equally effusive voice. And whoops, this showcase’s “secret” headliners are none other than The Blakes (who also play at today’s Capitol Hill Block Party). All of this for free? Loveless, we’re always learning to love you more.
