Leave it to On the Boards to locate an act whose appeal is as difficult to describe as it may be for some people to enjoy. Gregg Whelan and Gary Winters (pictured, left to right) comprise a U.K. performance art duo, and they’ve spent a lot of time contemplating life while, say, tromping across bridges in Norway. Walk With Me, Walk With Me, Will Somebody Please Walk With Me is a one-hour retrospective of seven years of such oddball odysseys, and features the pair with just clipboards and a video screen, reminiscing in a dreamy, determined monotone while occasionally breaking out into renditions of “Sussudio” or other pop memories. Almost Quarry
After a series of works for large groups, Amii LeGendre (pictured) wants to get small, so she’s got an intimate cadre of performers in a limited space, dancing in the twists and turns of an art gallery. Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg
Back in grad school, few musicians were as polarizing as violinist Nadja: students would come out of her concerts either beaming or grimacing, thrilled or appalled. I’ve always found her way with the classics convincing, her breakneck style secondary to the palpable thoughtfulness and seriousness of purpose behind her every musical decision. Besides, these days her bad-girl image seems downright prim compared to some of the slick T&A cheese that gets spread across certain crossover CD covers. She’ll play Saint-Säens, Rachmaninoff, and Tchaikovsky’s fiery Violin Concerto in this one-night-only gig with the Seattle Symphony.
