The Southern tradition of eating black-eyed peas and greens on New Year’s Day for good luck and prosperity has been adopted by Interbay P-Patch gardeners in recent years, as they host a community potluck with said items (and cornbread!) for your dining pleasure. Today there’ll be “a fire in the barrel and hot chocolate on the stove,” but bring your own dish to “The Garden Between the Bays.” Seattle’s most well-known P-Patch, which hosts 132 plots of 400 square feet for lucky green-thumbs to work with, has an average waiting period of 12-18 months, so it could be your only chance for a while to enjoy this sustainable space.
