In case you haven’t heard of it yet, Short Run is a giant alternative comix, zine, and animation festival that happens right here in Seattle. Just four years old, it’s quickly grown into a massive celebration that fills up Washington Hall with all sorts of weirdos and their even weirder fans. Over these past couple of years, I have gleefully become one of these weird fans, so I was super excited to check out this year’s festival held this past Saturday. It was, unsurprisingly, mega-wonderful. We photographed the event and all the behind the scenes work that led up to it, but since Short Run is a comix and animation festival, I figured I would walk you through my own day at Short Run via a fusion of those two—a GIF comic. Enjoy! (A quick correction: fest co-founder Kelly Froh informs Seattle Weekly that the total attendance this year was actually over 1,800 people. Holy wow, that’s a lot of people).
