Hotel Vintage Park Wine Tasting with Candace Frasher

Cheap tastings at a wine wonderland

Boutique hotels can be a lot of fun, with their perks and all—just ask anybody who’s been to Portland’s Jupiter Hotel on a Saturday night. But maybe your rendezvous style is less in-hotel-sex-shop and more $5 wine tasting. If so, and you’re indulging someone’s urge to get away this weekend by holing up in a hotel, Hotel Vintage Park is a spot you’ll like. It’s not rock and roll like the Ace or edgy-elegant like the Alexis, but they host two to three wine tastings each week, and each room is dedicated to a local winery and vineyard. Even if you’re not staying at the joint, stop by tonight, as Candace Frasher, author of Through the Grapevine: An Illustrated Guide to Wine Grapes, hosts. Hotel Vintage Park, 1100 Fifth Ave., 624-8000. $5. 5 p.m. RACHEL SHIMP
