Hot Mess with Team Gina

Saturday, December 29

With matching outfits, multiple costume changes, synchronized moves, old-school beats, and, above all else, a sense of humor, what’s not to like about Team Gina? The local lesbionic hip-hop duo is like a scrapbook from your ‘80s childhood; they drop references to Jem and the Holograms, wear neon tights, and employ those jabbing Run DMC-style beats. Through that kitschy pop culture stew, they channel their hilarious lyrics on feminism, suburban male privilege, and, of course, lesbianism. If you have yet to hear their song “Butch/Femme”, head to YouTube and watch the video. Team Gina borrow from Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back” to expound upon the virtues of butch ladies from a femme perspective (how does a femme lesbian tell a butch she likes her star tattoo and wife beater?). I guarantee you’ll be singing “I like butch girls and I cannot lie” for the rest of the day. With L.A. Kendall, Colby B. and Wesley Homes. Neumo’s, 925 E. Pike St., 709-9467. 9 p.m. $6. BRIAN J. BARR

Listen to a sample of Team Gina’s “A Tribe Called Rocco.”
