So maybe sometime as a kid, or maybe an adult, youre watching a Christmas special about the birth of Jesus. And the thought crosses your mind: Was Jesus really an immaculate conception? Or did Mary, clever girl that she was, get herself into trouble and make up all that mess just to avoid being stoned to death (not that Id blame her)? Then you worry youll go to hell for even entertaining the notion. Unless youre Jewish (or just dig our humor). In which case you dont just question the immaculate conceptionyou make a musical about questioning it. In an irreverent response to the annual deluge of Christmas shows, four of our own local funny-mensches (Quinn Redman, David Bestock, Ben Rosenblatt, and Eli Rosenblatt ) created and star in Holiday Bizarre: A Jewish Christmas, a musical comedy about Christendoms favorite holiday. It all starts when Joseph begins to question the origin of Marys pregnancy and hires three lawyers from the Wiseman law firm to file a paternity case that calls Marys honor, and thus Jesus immaculate conception, into question. Unfortunately, the odds are stacked against Joseph and the Wisemen, since the cases judge, Santa Claus, is an open anti-Semite. Meanwhile, the rapping Easter Bunny steals the whole damn show.
