H.R. of Bad Brains

Sunday, April 6

Hardcore punk founding fathers Bad Brains were like a thumb caked in head-banging bacteria in the lily-white eye of Reagan-era America. They ate chumps for brunch with their need for speed and diverse musical tastes and influences, from jazz to reggae to heavy metal. So it’s fitting that a band this raw with scabs would pick at them so often, and, as a result, break-up every other day. Besides being lead singer, H.R. was often lead instigator, which is fine by me, because his voice straight burns with, passion, energy and vertiginous highs and lows. In case you were wondering, H.R., a devout Rastafarian, stands for Human Rights these days, but don’t let ‘em fool ya—he’ll rip the roof off. With Dubb Agents, Yoda’s Eye, Singing Vernon, Crucial Change and Power of Coming Age. Funhouse, 206 Fifth Ave. N., 374-8400. 9:30 p.m. $10. KEVIN CAPPS
