For kids, pumpkin season is surrounded by great excitement. Theres the Peanuts story about the Great Pumpkin, field trips to patches, and the promise of masks, makeup, and pillowcases full of miniature sugar rush-inducing treats. For those of us past the age of 10 (unless youre a creep), the days of trick-or-treating are long gone, but the magic of the pumpkin lives on. However, its not going to be found rooting around in those giant crates full of pricey, moldy orange orbs plopped haphazardly in supermarket entryways. If theres one place to reclaim the spirit of Halloween, its Jubilee Farmone of the best patches around. While others merely plop precut pumpkins between the vines, Jubilee offers tractor-pulled hay rides from the parking lot to its organically grown patch, outfits hunters with a pair of good old-fashioned, vine-cutting shears, and lets you loose to find your own. They even serve hot, spiced cider at the farmhouse. And who knows, maybe youll even catch sight of Linus among the leaves, patiently awaiting a glimpse of the Great Pumpkin.
Saturdays, Sundays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: Oct. 20. Continues through Oct. 31, 2007
