Emma Pollock

Thursday, November 8

For a decade or so, Emma Pollock co-fronted Scottish band the Delgados—key players, with their Chemikal Underground label, in the formation of a vibrant Glasgow scene that spawned Mogwai and Arab Strap, and whose sound gradually evolved from guitar-tumultuous to sweepingly symphonic. The band called it quits in 2005, and Pollock immediately headed to 4AD Records for a solo career, with her husband, Delgados drummer Paul Savage, along for the ride. Pollock’s new Watch the Fireworks sounds exactly like an album on 4AD should—lush and shoegazingly hypnotic. By all accounts, the singer-guitarist and her band are able to crank that atmospheric effect to 11 live. Can you handle the dreaminess? Hungry Pines and Jen Wood open.
