Their name comes from a line a character in the British version of The Office utters about his drinking on the job, and British quartet Does It Offend You, Yeah? only lives up to its moniker if you absolutely can’t bear the thought of dancing madly to the dance-rock collision of roiling synths, big guitars, and chanty, shout-y vocals. DIOYY unabashedly cite the Prodigy as their main influence, and they can sometimes be as aggressive and confrontational as that outfit. But they can also unleash some mighty melodic and appealing New Wave-style synth-pop, and there are nods to the grooves of LCD Soundsystem and Daft Punk, too. “A lot of electro albums come out, and to be pretty blunt, there aren’t a lot of songs on there – there are some great sounds and some great production, but catchy songs? There aren’t a lot,” bassist-singer James Rushent recently told me. “We want to make a great production album, but at the same time, we wanna do the whistle test. What it comes down to at the end of the day is a song, and if people don’t remember it, then it’s not good enough.”
