Just when the novelty of a hyper-intellectual while boy rapper seems to have worn out its welcome (Mike Skinner, your days are numbered), Buck 65 spits out one of the strongest releases of 2007. Situation is the Canadian artists most finely drawn collection of characters and concepts, and his lyrical dexterity has never been more pointed. Anchored by a fixation on the promises of the year 1957 and buoyed by an unflappable sense of optimistic ambition, he skips through a minefield of shutterbug pornographers and boastful beat poets, observing and occasionally analyzing with a zeal and flow so animated it seams to leap from the speakers. Highly recommended. With Bernard Dolan.
