On the first Friday of each month, local experimental/avant-garde label Aphonia Recordings hosts a showcase at (surprise!) Gallery 1412. There’s no better home for the kind of music Aphonia puts forth—and this time around it includes the Olympia-based (surprise again!) Problems, whose music is described on the label’s Web site using words like “microstructures” and “polyforms.” Joined by the one-man electronic and vocal endeavor Paintings for Animals and the Precambrian, the project of the label’s founders—who utilize “homemade piezoelectric transducers, microphones, and algorithms” in their “one-act narratives” (songs?)—this is sure to be one freaky Friday.
