I’m not really a fan of the bonus Booty Star DVD that comes with Andre Nickatina’s most recent album Booty Star: Glock Tawk. Like the name indicates, it features heaps of ample buttocks jiggling to Nickatina’s tracks. Regardless, I got hooked on the San Francisco-based underground rapper through his 2003 masterpiece Conversation with the Devil. His flows were savage as fuck and surprisingly introspective given their gansta-rap origin. A majority of Nickatina’s work doesn’t glorify, but instead sympathizes with those who fall victim to the devastating lures of drugs and violence. Even with the booty-obsession that occasionally infiltrates his otherwise pensive lyrics, Nickatina is unquestionably deserving of his reputation as the Underground King.
