An Evening with Jesse Sykes and Phil Wandscher

Friday, January 18

Though tonight’s bill is missing the previously scheduled headliner, Gerald Collier, Seattle comes out ahead, for it’s the mystical, magical Jesse Sykes and bandmate Phil Wandscher who are stepping up to the plate in his place. “I wanted to do a stripped-down show because after spending a good part of the year touring with the band, it’s that time to start bunkering down to write again, and this is a nice way to sort of share a few new things I’m working on,” says Sykes of what spurred her decision to do the show. “Plus, I haven’t played stripped-down in Seattle for a long time, so it’ll be nice to revisit some of the older songs that I rarely have the opportunity to play much anymore.” The raven-haired maven is fresh off a jaunt to jolly old England, where she lent her smoky pipes to SUNNO))) and Boris for a live performance of their Altar release, a collaboration between the two bands featuring guests such as Sykes, Joe Preston, and Kim Thayil.
