After Chop Sueys month long residency with Throw Me the Statue, Nectar seems to have picked up where they left offand this month they kick it off with four shows headlined by the folkish David Karsten Daniels. Where Band of Horses packed up and headed down to Carolina (albeit South) and stayed, Daniels came to Seattle by way of North Cackalack, and in his knapsack brought along his brand of charming minimalist tunes. His first record, Sharp Teeth, was recorded while still in the deep South. Its cast with bible belt shadows and political musings dappled with the human condition, beautifully arranged melodic song structures with twangy Oldham-style vocals taking center stage. Though the drizzly Northwest is his home base now, it certainly hasnt put a damper on his skills as a songwriter. If the single Martha Anna flaky layered, addictive folk rock jammer thats got everything from dirty guitar solos to stair-stepping harmoniesfrom his to be released Fear of Flying (April 29 on Fat Cat) is any indication, then Seattle will likely be falling all over itself to sink its claws in to claim this new resident.
