Blood Red Dancers’ frontman and bassist Aaron PoppickIf you don’t like Broken Social Scene — or didn’t get your tickets in time — I’d like to humbly suggest attending the Blood Red Dancers show tonight at the Comet Tavern. They are– if you don’t know already– a three-piece driven by Aaron Poppick’s bass lines, Kevin Lord’s drums and Julian Thomas’ cacophonous keyboard jamming. It’s like…psychedelic acid blues played by people on the brink of madness. A great band to watch out for, especially since they’re working on another release that will hopefully be made available to us this summer. Oh, and courtesy of rad local music blog Seattle Subsonic, you can download Blood Red Dancers’ EP, Let Him Fight, I’ll Be In The Breadline right here. Blood Red Dancers play with Doctor And The Bird, a blues outfit I don’t know much about, but whose old-timey flavor is sitting pretty well with me after a perfunctory listen. Sugar Sugar Sugar and Trombone Cake are playing, also. That show starts around 9 p.m. and will cost a measly $6, in comparison to the $20 you could have dropped on Broken Social Scene. You can also go check out Karl Blau, Your Heart Breaks and folk duo the Solvents at The Mix in Georgetown, if you find yourself out that way; that show costs $6 and will begin at 9 p.m. as well.
