Cut Chemist is playing Benaroya Hall on Friday night. Are you a student? Aren’t we all? Tomorrow’s concert featuring LA DJ Cut Chemist is not only a noble cause– a benefit for Seattle Children’s Hospital– but will also reportedly feature 280 performers for a piece entitled Symphony of the Superhero, which, according to Cut Chemist’s website, is: composed by Mateo Messina, [and] will enchant and intrigue the audience with a full orchestra, four choirs, a Brazilian band, a bell choir, and guest musicians including Lili Haydn and Natalie Dungey.Cut Chemist is most famous as a founding member of Jurassic 5; I gained a lot of insight into his genius in the documentary This Is The Life, and while his work for J5 was legendary, his individual experimental artistry has truly emerged since the release of his solo The Audience’s Listening… in 2006. He is a shining example of a DJ with true roots in hip-hop whose music now expands the genre, as evidenced by this ambitious collaboration. Today, the promoters are releasing a limited amount of “student discounted” tickets that bring the price from $45-55 down to $15. Pretty sweet.Go to http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/81775, click on BEGIN ORDER (top right corner), next page prompts, then there is a box next to the words DISCOUNT CODE. In that box type the password, “student” then click SHOW ADDITIONAL PRICES.vIt won’t look like much has changed, but there will now be an option for tickets called STUDENT $15. You can get your tickets from there. Word.
