1. Taylor Shellfish’s Lower Queen Anne oyster bar opens today in the Expo Apartments at Republican and Warren. The space will be slightly larger than the Melrose Market shop, with 50 seats for slurping fresh oysters and an eventual patio for another 35.
2. Cupcake Royale earned a mention in May’s issue of O, The Oprah Magazine. The magazine gives props to the Seattle shop’s buttercream frosting.
3. Broadway’s Pho Than Brothers is on the move – but not too far. Capitol Hill Seattle reports the restaurant is relocating across the street from their current location, to the Joule building. “We are very excited to move to new location, nicer, brighter, more windows and open kitchen,” Than Brothers tells CHS.
4. A fungus is threatening to upend the $8.9 billion global banana industry. The fungus has devastated the Cavendish banana, which accounts for 95% of global banana exports, in Asia, the Middle East and Africa. If it moves to Central and South America, Americans may have to find another fruit of choice.
