photo by Adriana GrantA new back-room bar just opened, tucked inside Stella Caffe, at 1224 First Avenue. Decked out in chandeliers and exposed brick, The Diller Room is located within what used to be The Diller Hotel. This was Seattle’s first luxury hotel, erected in 1898, which, back then, according to owner Rob Wilson, meant it has running water. The lounge proudly displays an old neon sign from the former hotel, above the long polished bar that’s technically sited within the cafe. This venue, as owner Wilson tells me, has got a sort of night and day thing going, a double identity. On an early visit (their grand opening is not until the 17th), the food left a little to be desired, though the drinks were good and strong, and the mood of the place was right on.
