At Des Amis, you’re as likely to find a Mariner on his downtime as a rap star who has just performed at one of the larger venues in this show-busy neighborhood. Seven dollars for a Corona and a shot of tequila seems to be the draw for those not tapped into the rumor mill—though the two well-stocked bars offer plenty of other options. The comfy upstairs lounge and somewhat cavernous basement bar entertain one of Seattle’s more culturally diverse clienteles, with eclectic music programming from R&B vocalists to reggae performers to techno DJs. Saturdays are your best bet for dancing, with many of Seattle’s top promoters using the interesting space for unique one-offs and monthlies like Bootylib. A “ghetto bass focused dance party” with a Detroit techno bent, it does get booties moving—and it’s unlike anything else you’ll hear on this block. RACHEL SHIMP
