Sean Michael Stanley has been all over the news. A convicted sex offender in Canada with a history of grabbing children off playgrounds, Stanley is accused of cutting off his electronic monitoring bracelet on Oct. 1 in Edmonton, Alberta and fleeing into the United States via the Blaine border crossing. He was located in Seattle last week, but while he’s got a dangerous criminal record, Canadian authorities are not seeking his extradition. Because of this – to the dismay of many – all Seattle police have been able to do is stand by and watch.

Until this morning, that is, when Stanley was arrested on investigation of harassment. According to SPD, authorities were called to reports of a man yelling in an alley. When they arrived, they reportedly found Stanley, intoxicated, threatening and wielding a small knife.

According to the SPD Blotter blog:

Just before 6 AM this morning, police received several reports that a man was yelling in an alley near the 2300 block of 44th Avenue SW in West Seattle.

One caller told police that when he’d asked the man to quiet down, the man had threatened to assault him.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Stanley, who became combative with officers and claimed he had a knife.

According to Seattle Police, Stanley was booked into King County Jail this morning. According to Lindsay Cohen of KOMO, Stanley is facing a misdemeanor charge, which is not enough to send him back to Canada.

UPDATE:

As MyNorthwest.com and others are now reporting, Stanley is also under investigation for an alleged sexual assault of a 16-year-old boy.

According to a police report, Tuesday morning, Stanley met a 16-year-old boy at a grocery store, struck up a conversation with the teen and walked with him to the alley. He reportedly provided him with alcohol, grabbed the teen, and sexually assaulted him.

The 16-year-old pulled a knife on Stanley, ran to a nearby location and called police.
