Thursday night marked the official red-carpet opening of the 41st edition of the Seattle International Film Festival at McCaw Hall. In addition to the bespoke presence of Paul Feig, director of the festival opening-comedy Spy, scores of visiting filmmakers marched the carpet along with avid SIFF-goers (many of them dressed up for the occasion). Mayor Ed Murray was on hand to help launch the 25-day fest, the larges of its kind in the U.S. (running through June 7 at multiple venues; see siff.net for details).
Sharp eyes may spot local talent like local DJ Marco Collins (subject of the doc The Glamour & The Squalor), SIFF favorite Lynn Shelton, ‘50s matinee idol Tab Hunter turned gay icon (of the doc Tab Hunter Confidential), festival director Carl Spence, and some filmmakers we just featured in our SIFF issue: David Chen (The Primary Instinct), Ewan McNicol and Anna Sandilands (Uncertain); and Erik Hammen (Beach Town). After watching Spy, which opens June 5, everyone attended the afterparty, which lasted long into the night.
