Goodie Mob is back together, and back on tour. Since they’ve gotten their requisite Atlanta gig out of the way, the seminal Southern hip-hop outfit (Cee-Lo, Big Gipp, Khujo, T-Mo) is free to move about the country, and is coming Feb. 24 to Neumos. Fuck, I’m excited.A long, long time ago in a city far, far away, I saw them perform at the University of Central Florida, in Orlando. Roughly a year after its release, the quartet’s sophomore disc, 1998’s Still Standing, was still on a lot folks’ mind–especially down South–and it showed during the performance: The crowd damn near had a conniption fit when Gipp launched into the first verse of “They Don’t Dance No Mo’.” I’ll have more on this later (after I scrape the circa 1993-1999 blunt resin from my brain), but, in the meantime, check out Creative Loafing scribe Maurice Garland’s Goodie profile, which contains a random exchange between Gipp and a passerby that seems straight out of Harry Crews novel: “‘Gipp?’ a random Atlanta native shouts out, spotting a member of the crew.””Sup, folk,’ Big Gipp hollers back.”‘Aw man! What you doing out here?'”‘Just working. We got a show coming up.'”‘Goodie Mob?'”‘Yep, come on out, folk.'”‘Hell yeah! I’ll stab a nigga for y’all man, for real.'””Preciate it, folk,’ Gipp laughs.”
