A group of bigots attacked a pair of pedestrians yesterday after the latter failed to cross the street quickly enough.
According to the SPD Blotter, a man and a woman were crossing the street in Columbia City yesterday evening when the traffic light changed. A tall white man with reddish hair in a black Volvo started yelling at them, making “comments about the victims’ weight and sexual orientation.” The pedestrians yelled back, and the car drove away.
A little while later, and about a mile away, the Volvo found them again, now with another passenger—a big white guy. He threw a bottle of de-icer at the pedestrians, hitting one of them in the arm. Two blocks later, the pedestrians caught up with the car to take a photo.
That’s when the gun came out. From the Blotter:
“As they approached the car, a man–described as being in his late 20s, 6’0 with a heavy build, wearing a black hat and t-shirt and brown pants and shoes–and pointed a gun at the victims. The victims snapped a picture of the suspect, ducked behind a car and called 911 as the suspects drove away.”
The Bias Crimes unit is working on the case. They’ve already identified the vehicle ower, but as you can see from the photo, the almost-shooter was a passenger. If you have relevant information you want to share with police, call 206-684-5550.
