As feared, and expected, Olsen’s Scandinavian Foods in Ballard has announced that it will be closing down after 49 years in business. The owners said they were holding out, trying to sell the business within the family, but for various reasons it didn’t work out. The store is set to close in mid to late July.
Ballard continues to have the most restaurant openings this week, with My Ballard reporting that Bastille is still set for its June 29 opening. Seattle Magazine’s Lorna Yee took a tour with chef Shannon Galusha to get a sneak peek before the opening.
Portage Bay Cafe is planning on opening July 7, two weeks from today. The Ballard cafe will be moving into the old Grace’s Kitchen location on Market Street.
Ballard (again!) is also set to get an expansion of Fremont’s George and Dragon pub. This new pub will be called Market Arms, and will be at the corner of Market and 24th.
CHS says Po Dog, an alternative hot dog shop, has a tentative opening date of October 1 on East Union Street. These hot dogs are said to feature bananas and peanut butter among other things, all on a potato bun.
