A blueberry lemon drop at Twist. In the bustle of the extended Fourth of July weekend, this reporter missed the massive bomb that Belltown People dropped a couple days ago: Twist and its restaurant Ventana, at 2313 First Ave., is holding its last day of business today. Admittedly, my first impression of Twist was that it was yet another one of the countless uber-trendy, overpriced bars that line Belltown. Blame it on the black-and-purple color scheme, pig-shaped disco ball, and, to top it off, bathroom walls painted with urban art. But Twist surprised and won me by offering–until closing time today, anyway–the best happy hour in Seattle. The extensive and eclectic menu features deviled eggs, lobster mac n’ cheese, and wild boar chili, as well as more down-home bar fare like cheeseburgers and fried chicken. Wine is $3 a glass, wells $4, and cocktails $5. But what’s really impressive is that the HH menu is available for eight hours (4 p.m. to midnight) from Sunday to Thursday–that’s a happy freakin’ day!–and for four hours (4 to 8 p.m.) on Fridays and Saturdays. Twist made it impossible to complain that downtown lacked awesome but affordable options. I became a regular, and today, my first reaction upon hearing the news of its closure was “NO!” Anybody who ever took advantage of the establishment’s deals before is sure to agree with me, and should drown their sorrows pay their respects there tonight. For those who haven’t, you better come with an excuse to leave work early and do so, because this is your last damn chance to experience one hell of a happy hour at Twist.Follow Voracious on Facebook and Twitter.
