In these financially crippling times, only things free or dirt cheap inspire me to get out of the house. The weather doesn’t make matters easier either. But you can damn well bet I’d trudge through the rain-soaked streets barefoot and naked to be a part of the two following events we neglected to mention in this week’s pages:
At 5pm, Sonic Boom in Capitol Hill, will play host to four of the six Comedians of Comedy – Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, Maria Bamford, and Jasper Redd – who will be on-hand for a live meet-and-greet. Oswalt’s latest comedy record, Werewolves and Lollipops is easily the funniest thing I’ve heard all year. The bits on KFC Bowls, George Lucas, and Cirque de Soleil…genius. If I wasn’t stuck in Fremont this evening, I’d have Oswalt sign “Failure Pile” on my forehead.
Then at 7pm, Coconut Coolouts/Charming Snakes dude Ruben Mendez and Chicago-based artist Derek Erdman team up at Pony for “7 SOLID HOURS OF THE FALL.” Mendez and Erdman are both HUGE fans of the famed punk icons, The Fall, and they’ll unleash their vast collections of The Fall records on Pony patrons, playing nothing but The Fall all night long. Even if you’re not a Fall fan (yet), go there and hear what you’ve been missing. Should be incredible.
