On Monday political blogger David Goldstein posted audio at his HorsesAss.org website in which NRA representative Brian Judy can purportedly be heard spouting ahistorical gibberish comparing Washington’s universal background checks initiative, I-594, to Nazi Germany while dissing billionaire Nick Hanauer, who’s Jewish, for his support of the measure. Naturally, the Internet responded. “It is deeply offensive for anyone to suggest that Jewish supporters of gun violence prevention have ‘forgotten’ the history of our people.” —The Jewish Federation of Seattle, via press release • “I’m disappointed, but not surprised.” —Nick Hanauer, via PubliCola • “The tone, message, and implications of Mr. Judy’s comments . . . cross a line of civic discourse.” —State Rep. Reuven Carlyle, via Facebook
