It actually sounds kinda like the beginning of a joke: Tom Douglas, William Belickis and Josh Henderson walk into a TV studio…I mean, maybe not the funniest joke in the world, but you get what I mean, right? If you were going to put together a panel of Seattle restaurateurs, I’m not sure that anyone could find three guys with less in common, business-wise, than these three. There’s Douglas, the old fashioned multi-unit owner and celebrity chef. Belickis, the iconoclast, who abandoned serious fine dining (the late, lamented Mistral) for sorta-fine-dining (Mistral Kitchen) and a peek into the future of cuisine. And then there’s Henderson, the guy who cooks out of an Airstream on the street.According to Skillet’s Twitter and Facebook updates, the three of them–Douglas, Belickis and Henderson–are all going to be sitting down together tomorrow, at 7pm, to talk with Josephine Cheng on her show About The Money on KCTS 9. Now I don’t know exactly what they’re going to be talking about (I’m guessing it’s going to have something to do with The Money), but seeing that these three were going to be getting together in front of TV cameras got me thinking…You know what would be an awesome TV show? Taking a guy like Douglas and making him cook a day inside the Skillet truck. Or taking Henderson and making him run the Tom Douglas empire for just one day–without, hopefully, running it straight into the ground. Or having Belickis…uh…Okay, so I haven’t worked out all the kinks yet, but seriously, THAT would be some food TV that I would watch. You could call it something cool like Chef Swap or Out Of The Frying Pan (get it? Skillet? Frying pan?) and, every week, find two or three very different chefs to trade places for a day or a week just to see how the other half (or other third, I guess…) lives. And TV development people out there reading this can contact me via Seattle Weekly. I’m sure we can work something out.
