King Britt

Disco

Let’s do a recap of the Broken Disco headliners so far: April brought an elated crowd for techno artist John Tejada, who performed a nearly-flawless live set. May’s crowd for knifehandchop wasn’t so much elated as out of their minds—plus, Passions got half-naked on the DJ table. Plus, the MC wore a spacesuit. How do you top that? Tijuana’s Nortec Collective attempted it in June, and Sweden’s The Field might’ve pulled it off last month. Each headliner has been absolutely distinct from the others, which is another reason this party should be as anticipated as your monthly XLR8R sampler. Both will show you something you didn’t know or appreciate before. Tonight’s headliner is King Britt, best known as the Digable Planets’ DJ back in the day, and for his remixes of artists like Bebel Gilberto and Femi Kuti. His crates are deep with original tracks and exclusives, and he knows how to work a room. I mean, if anyone could get a bunch of Microsofties—in surely the ugliest space at the Winter Music Conference designated for dancing—to move, it was King Britt. And that’s a good thing for the real party people. With John Arnold, Hideki and Bumblebee, J-Sun, Kadeejah Streets, Jerry Abstract, and Justin Byrnes.
