Round 1Guitar-shredding goddess Marnie Stern takes a shot at Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast — in an interview with Impose magazine, when asked about Best Coast’s stereotypical boy-loving lyrics, Stern commented, “Of course I heard a song and was like, ‘Are you joking me?’ … That’s unacceptable, that’s unacceptable. That’s not showing any part, that’s unacceptable. You might as well then be an 80s hair metal band saying ‘I want pussy.'”Round 2At a show in Philadelphia, Cosentino tells her audience, “There’s nothing wrong with writing songs about your cat and boys … Haters can suck my dick.”Round 3 When asked about said comments by New York Magazine, Stern defends herself, saying, “I wasn’t trying to hurt anyone’s feelings, or insult anyone at all…I think that the angle that some people were taking was that a woman shouldn’t be saying something about another woman — doesn’t that set us back however many years? Like what you like. Period.”Round 4Cosentino’s boyfriend, the notoriously contentious Nathan Williams of Wavves, reportedly refers to Stern as an “old, desperate bitch.” Round 5Stern one-ups Williams on his nasty comment. At her show at the Vera Project last night, she announces she has an inspired new set of t-shirts for sale, featuring her picture above the initials ODB.These crazy kids. I do love a good, entertaining rock-and-roll feud and secretly hope someone gets bitch-slapped or at least that some hair gets pulled.
