Singer/songwriter Colyn Cameron, aka Wake Owl, loves curveballs. His 2013 debut EP, Wild Country, suggested a steady-handed, subtle Americana/folk artist was introducing himself to us, but his new full-length, The Private World of Paradise, U-turns into ’60s- and ’70s-era rock with all the echoing vocals and warm recording qualities you’d expect from that time. With Mimicking Birds, Big Haunt. Barboza, 925 E. Pike St., 709-9442, thebarboza.com. 8 p.m. $10. 21 and over. BP
The Great Um “loves to make rock-and-roll music” and has been doing it in Seattle since 2010, releasing its first full-length in 2012 and gearing up now for the release of its EP Everybody Now. The band’s classic pop sound features bright, jangly guitar and an abundance of lighthearted, infectious hooks (a la Vampire Weekend). With We Say Bang!, Shelk. Cafe Racer, 5828 Roosevelt Way N.E., 523-5282, caferacerseattle.com. 9 p.m. Free. 21 and over. JESSIE MCKENNA
