Ballard’s frenzy of restaurant openings continues with the new speciality sandwich shop, Rizzo’s French Dip. Manager and family friend Tony Ferris tells us the place is owned by Frank Rizzo and his cousins Tom and Tony Rizzo. After arriving in Seattle about six months ago from L.A., they were disheartened to find no sandwich shops akin to places like the famous Philippe’s (French dip originators located in L.A.), so they decided to open one themselves. At the beginning of the month they began by selling French dips made with beef they roast in-house (using Frank’s grandma’s recipe), served with a side of macaroni salad. They’ve since begun offering chili on Wednesdays, and hope to add meatballs, turkey, and pastrami. The spot only has a couple of tables so everything is packaged to go, but Ferris tells us they plan to add a deck along the side for extra seating. The 15th Avenue Northwest location is right next door to Psychic Jade Destiny (who just to happens to be Frank’s wife), in case you want a glimpse into your future after you eat.Find restaurant gossip like this plus local food events and great date ideas in our Big Bites e-newsletter, sent out every Tuesday.
