Last week, Nirvana was voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

On April 10th, the date the grunge godfathers officially become inducted, Hoquiam, WA has declared that it will recognize “Nirvana Day.”

Despite Cobain’s childhood home being in nearby Aberdeen, Hoquiam’s Mayor Jack Durney said that Nirvana brought pride to all of Grays Habor County

“They bring great honor, I think as I say, to our entire community. And I think that it’s good Kurt Cobain lived in Hoquiam for a little while, but he and Krist Novoselic are part of our community, and I think it’s good to honor our sons and their great accomplishments.” said Durney on Grays Habor’s KXRO Radio.

In Everett True’s “Nirvana: The Biography,” Cobain is quoted saying that his hometown of Aberdeen was like “Twin Peaks without the excitement.”
