A new milestone in Seattle sports could be achieved tonight when the Sounders take on the LA Galaxy at CenturyLink Field.
Sounders coach Sigi Schmid will be looking for his 200th MLS regular-season game. Schmid is already the record holder for most wins in MLS history, and no other coach has come close to 200.
Schmid has had previous stops in Los Angeles and Columbus coaching the Galaxy and the Crew. Since coming to Seattle in 2009, Schmid has amassed a record of 86-46-48, making the majority of his wins with the Sounders.
Though the achievement is something to be praised when it happens, judging by Schmid’s quotes in the Seattle Times it doesn’t seem like something the coach is giving much thought to:
“It’s not something I consciously think about, but it’s just a reflection that I’ve been blessed by having a lot of good players play for me,” Schmid tells the Times. “Players make it easy to be successful as a coach.”
Schimid’s reaction is reminiscent of how he felt when he coached his 400th game. Still, it is an accomplishment that will be noted.
The Sounders take on the LA Galaxy tonight at 7 p.m. If you aren’t at the game, you can catch it on ESPN2. Bristol sure does seem to love Seattle lately.
