“The Daily Drink” brings you a must-try libation from our booze columnist Zach Geballe.
It’s going to be an interesting summer for cocktails. Between droughts and drug cartels, the Mexican lime industry has sent prices skyrocketing…like a four-fold increase in the last year. As such, bars and restaurants throughout the city are exploring ways to cut their lime usage. Witness this cocktail at Sun Liquor, the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, which is nominally a blend of their Sun Rum, lime juice, orange Curaco, and house Falernum. Instead, it was heavy on orange juice and didn’t come garnished with the promised lime wheel. It was still good, but it’s definitely a harbinger of things to come.
Zach Geballe does a lot of drinking. When he’s not working at The Dahlia Lounge or for his business Vine Trainings, he’s studying for the Court of Master Sommeliers Exam. His weekly column here at Seattle Weekly, The Bar Code, endeavors to inspire, educate and sometimes poke fun at all things beer, wine and spirits related.
