The Martha Stewart “American Made” Awards’ finalists are online and ready for the votes. “American Made” celebrates local and handmade products and though there are many categories, like crafts, I’m obviously most interested in the Food category.
Washington state — and several specifically Seattle-based companies — have eight contenders. In the “Sweet & Baked Goods” subcategory, Bluebird Microcreamery and Mora Iced Creamery are among the finalists.
In the “Bottled, Jarred & Canned” entries, there’s Simple & Crisp, maker of small-batch dried fruit slices; JCoco, the chocolatier that celebrates feminine fashion in its packaging and offers unusual flavors like edamame sea salt in milk chocolate and black fig pistachio in dark chocolate (of which I keep a secret stash in my office); Noble Handcrafted, producer of aged and infused syrups and vinegars, and Spiceologist, serving up over 100 spices and 13 spice rubs.
Lastly, “Wine & Spirits”: Washington’s two inclusions are 2Bar Spirits (which makes a bourbon, a vodka and moonshine) and Brovo Spirits, specializing in interesting liqueurs like spearmint, lavender and rose geranium (I have a couple in my liquor cabinet and add them occasionally to cocktails).
Subcategories with no Washington finalists: Agriculture & Sustainability (really?), Dry Goods and Restaurateurs.

According to the site, ten “American Made” award winners will be announced on October 17: nine chosen by the judges and one by the nationwide audience through an online voting process. The winning entrepreneurs will win a trip for two to New York City to attend the American Made event; a spot in the American Made Market; $10,000 to grow their businesses; the opportunity to be featured in Martha Stewart Living magazine, on SiriusXM radio, and on the website, as well as other prizes.
