1. Chef Ericka Burke, of Volunteer Park Cafe fame, has announced she will open Canal Market later this summer. The market will sell groceries, fresh produce, household items, gift items, and grab-and-go food at 2919 Fuhrman Avenue East. The shop will have a large breakfast buffet, juice and espresso bar, organic rotisserie chicken, local and imported wine and beer, and a growler fill station.
2. Field Roast is hosting an open house barbeque on June 27 at its new SODO location. The event will include complimentary Field Roast Burgers to show off the company’s new product, facility tours, raffles, and a photo booth. You’ll also have a chance to win a year’s supply of burgers if you show off your burger creation in the photo booth.
3. The Lake City Farmers Market is celebrating its opening day today. The market runs from 3 to 7 p.m. and opening day will include live music, Spanish and English storytelling, kids craft projects, and beer sampling from Elliott Bay Brewing Company. New vendors like Terra Fleur Mushrooms and Britt’s Pickles will be on site, too.
4. To the chagrin of foodies everywhere, the Food and Drug Administration has banned aging cheese on wooden planks, for sanitary reasons. Artisanal cheese makers are also rankled.
