Yesterday we straightened out the rumors about the secret owner of 5 Corner Market in Ballard–and found out that there really was no big secret there.Today, we bop over to West Seattle where, word on the street is, the former Table 35 space at 4752 California Avenue (which lasted less than a year in West Seattle) has been picked up by Peter Levy and his CHOW Foods group (which already operates those local staples 5 Spot, Endolyne Joe’s and The Hi-Life).So whaddya think, folks? Is this one true?Well, yes and no. Let’s say this one is about half-true. I put in a call to CHOW Foods boss Peter Levy yesterday and, today, got him on the blower to talk about a potential move into Table 35’s vacated premises.”We’re looking at it,” Levy told me. “We’re exploring the possibilities.” Which, basically, is what business-guys say when they’re sniffing around a space, like the look of it, but haven’t yet signed anything. Which I know because I asked him if he’d put his name on any dotted lines yet and he said no.”It’s kind of a crappy time of year,” he said–meaning no one in their right mind would want to be going through build-outs and openings during the holiday season which, for most restaurateurs, are simply a time to hunker down and bank as much green as possible in anticipation of the lean months coming up on the calendar: that long stretch of winter months broken only by the saving graces of Valentines Day and Mothers Day.But Levy also said that CHOW Foods is actively looking at additional addresses for expansion. Matter of fact, he’s been poking around for quite some time–“Looking at several different opportunities,” in his words, but without any solid concept in mind. “We’re more opportunistic,” he told me. More apt to fit the space with a concept than trying to hammer a concept into a space. So, West Seattle, while things are certainly looking promising for a CHOW Foods expansion onto California Avenue, nothing has been written in blood just yet. As soon as there is news, though, you can bet that we’ll update you on who your new neighbors might be.
