Rainier Beer announced their inaugural R-Day for this upcoming Friday, October 24th in honor of the restoration of the iconic neon ‘R’ atop the Old Rainier Brewery in Georgetown. A ‘Jubilee Jaunt’ will take place in several neighborhoods in Seattle led by a giant commemorative Rainier Jubilee can on a flatbed truck. Wow. The procession will make its way through LQA, Ballard, the U District, Fremont and Belltown culminating on Capitol Hill from 2 p.m. through 2 a.m. Mascot bottles ‘The Grazing Rainiers’ will also join in the fun.
From further afield, the San Juan’s are a beautiful place to visit any time of year. But no time may be better than the present as the foliage is in full Fall regalia. What better reason than to make a trip up this weekend for the first annual Bite of San Juan festival being held this Sunday the 26th? Come to Friday Harbor and meet over two dozen growers, brewers and food artisans as their crafts are put on display. Consume delicious food and nature and be reminded of why you live in this beautiful part of the world.
At Phinney Books this Wednesday the 22nd at 7:30 p.m. you can meet Chef and author extraordinaire Becky Selengut and local forager-cum-author Langdon Cook talk Mushroom Foraging and Cookery. Selengut will talk about her latest cookbook ‘Shroom’ and Cook will discuss his latest ‘The Mushroom Hunters’ in this intimate setting. If you are into finding fungus for food then this is a must-go event.
