Psycho/Hitchcock

What a great double-feature. Psycho (1960) you know: The black-and-white shocker with its famous shower scene and Anthony Perkins in drag. The fine new film Hitchcock, which opens November 30, casts Anthony Hopkins as the famous director during the making of Psycho, a period of self-doubt when he first began to feel old and out of touch in Hollywood. Helen Mirren is excellent as his loyal wife. Also enjoyably cast are Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh, Jessica Biel as Vera Miles, and English actor James D’Arcy–who bears an uncanny resemblance to poor, closeted Hopkins. Perkins is barely recognizable beneath his fat suit, and he brings real poignance to the role. (PG-13) BRIAN MILLER
