It’s a publicity stunt, but we’re willing to play the part.

Recreational marijuana company (who knew there was such a thing?) Prohibition Brands will attempt to construct a 1,000 gram marijuana cigarette at Hempfest this year, according to company President Brian Laoruangroch. That would be big enough to set what’s proven to be an elusive world record, given anti-marijuana laws across the world.

According to the Seattle-based company, other attempts at the record have been thwarted by buzz-killing police:

The earliest documentation of a world record was in 2005-2006- Brett Stone in Los Angeles attempted 112 grams on New Years Eve. In 2006, a dutch group attempted a 500 gram joint, but cancelled after police intervention. Most recently this year, students in Santa Cruz on 420 unveiled a two pound marijuana joint which was confiscated by the police.

It’s also not clear yet whether Guinness is up for certifying the record, but Prohibition isn’t letting that stop them:

“Laoruangroch contacted Guinness to have the record certified and is awaiting reply. If Guinness should choose not to recognize the record, the company still plans to claim the record, and will documented with witnesses present to support our claim.”

Given the recent concern being aired about pot smokers getting a little too comfortable lighting up in public, a 1,000 gram joint would seem to be a good candidate for local police intervention, so we’re not holding our breath for this to come to pass. If it does, we’ll then commence to breathe deeply.
