The folks at Hidmo, a Central District-based Eritrean restaurant and community center, recently started a free concert series called Live at Himdo that showcases local musicians every Friday night. It’s one of the only places in the Central District that you can go to catch live music and they do a darn good job of booking urban artists that deserve some praise. Laura “Piece” Kelly, J-Pinder, Felicia Loud, and Ohmega Watts have recently performed there, amongst others, and each week seems to get significantly better than the last — both in attendance and in the quality of acts that are booked. Tonight, local glamazon okanomode is performing a solo show at Hidmo that’s guaranteed to be just as heavy on music as it is in theatrics. If you’ve never seen him perform before, okanomode AKA SoulChilde, combines new school soul music with rock, glam, and whatever else he feels like during his sets. The show tonight starts at 9 p.m., and it’s free. You can check out video of Ohmega Watts’ performance from last week after the jump.LIVE @ HIDMO – Ohmega Watts from Scott Macklin on Vimeo.
