The Gregoire snubs continued to pour in from the White House Monday, with new heads of the EPA, the Energy Department and budget office announced with nary a Christine mentioned.Earlier in the year, Washington’s former governor was on the watch list for a number cabinet level posts, most notably Interior and EPA. Interior went instead to REI CEO Sally Jewell. Today, it was announced the EPA would be run by Gina McCarthy, now the assistant administrator for the agency’s Office of Air and Radiation. It’s quite likely this isn’t news to Gregoire, as McCarthy emerged as a leading candidate in February. And every time the press tries to spin these cabinet announcements as an inevitable blow to Gregoire’s ego, her handlers put forth a very plausible, alternative narrative: that she’s enjoying her time being in charge of nothing but maybe a granddaughter.
