We all know Seahawks fans get loud when cheering on the home team at CenturyLink Field. Sometimes, according to plenty of reports, they even border on belligerent. And now, perhaps that loud belligerency will help Seattle’s football fans enter the record books, as NFL.com and ProFootballTalk.com are reporting that Seahawks fans are hoping to set a Guinness record for noise when the team opens the season Sept. 15 against the hated San Francisco 49ers.
According to NFL.com and ProFootballTalk.com, a Seahawks fan organization known as Volume 12 has applied with Guinness to have the noise level at CenturyLink monitored during the home opener. If rabid Hawks fans can get louder than 131.76 decibels – the current record, set during a Galatasaray SC vs. Fenerbahce SC soccer game at the Ali Sami Yen Sport Complex Turk Telekom Arena in Turkey in 2011 – then the 12th Man will officially etch its name in the history books.
According to Seattle Weekly’s Ellis Conklin, a 49ers fan, “49er fans are neither pleased nor amused by these puerile antics. It’s going to take a lot more than 60,000 loud-mouthed drunks to beat us.”
