After spending 2008 through 2011 nearly constantly in the public spotlight, Lady Gaga had something of a less exposed 2012. She kept busy touring on the back of her second LP, 2011’s Born This Way, and focused on projects that were a bit less splashy than her typically outrageous music videos and public appearances: guesting on The Simpsons, appearing on the cover of Vogue bearing a strange resemblance to RuPaul, singing “Gimme Shelter” with the Rolling Stones at the final show of their 50th anniversary tour. (Only in Lady Gaga’s world would duetting with Mick Jagger count as a low-key event). But in 2013, look for Gaga mania to hit hard, again: after completing the last leg of the Born This Way Ball tour, she will release a new record, ARTPOP, in the spring, accompanied by a documentary shot by the polemical Terry Richardson, and she’ll make her silver screen debut in Robert Rodriguez’s newest slasher, Machete Kills. Paws up, little monsters. With Madeon, Lady Starlight. ERIN K. THOMPSON
