Tacoma band The Drug PurseOkay, so psychedelic rock is probably the second-most compelling reason for marijuana legalization, but the first is a no-brainer. As in, anyone who thinks cancer patients should not be allowed to spend 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in a weed sauna — or swim in a ganj-filled swimming pool Scrooge McDuck-style if they so choose — is obviously a pitiless ignoramus who has never witnessed a loved one endure the horrors of chemo’s aftermath at close range. While it may feel counter intuitive to host a pot legalization benefit show at this particular moment in time (didn’t anyone tell those silly stoners the election’s over?), the timing actually makes a certain kind of sense. In an attempt to galvanize the stoners who forgot to sign that pesky petition this last spring, Sensible Washington is hosting a really kick-ass benefit show at the Comet Tavern on November 21 in an attempt to get a jump on a ballot initiative for the next election. The bill features the Night Beats, the Drug Purse and Black Science, all of whom specialize in heady music that makes a strong case for legalization by virtue of its mere existence. See, weed is the chocolate to psychedelic rock’s peanut butter. Because peanut butter is good by itself, but it’s way better with chocolate. And I don’t know about you, but I’d like to live in a world in which I don’t have to go visit my special “friend” just to buy a candy bar.
